Hi everyone! This week sees me prepping and packing for my holiday (if you follow me on Instagram then you’ll know I am off to Mykonos next week!) With that in mind and holiday season coming up here are my tips for stress free travel.
Check In Online
This might be a given in this day and age especially as airlines such as EasyJet only accept online check-in’s but I would do this as early as possible. This ensures that if you’re pre-booking your seat you get to choose where exactly you’d like to sit on the plane. Extra leg room exit seats anyone?!!
Get To The Airport Early
I like to get to the airport uber early to allow time for any delays through security and dropping off any hold bags. I also like to look around the shops and have a bite to eat and drink. This means there are no mad rushes to your plane. Typically airlines recommend allowing two hours for European flights and three hours for long haul.
I always take printed copies of my boarding passes and hotel confirmation with me as a back up to the ones on my phone. Technology is great but it can be unreliable.
Make A List
I always find it useful to make a list of everything I want to take with me and start it at least a week before I go away. The list includes everything from underwear to chargers and a list of all potential outfits to wear including shoes. Starting it well in advance also helps me work out if there is anything else I need to buy before I leave.
Hand Luggage Prep
If you’re travelling with just hand luggage, airline regulations stipulate that only liquids in containers under 100ml can be taken on board with you. Anything larger needs to be put in the hold. Save time at the airport and put all of your mini toiletries into a separate container bag before you leave ready to transfer to the designated plastic bags at the airport. I find sandwich bags perfect for this so you have some idea of how much you can fit. Make sure to put the bag of miniatures at the top of your bag so it’s easily grab-able when arriving at security – it’s a real time saver.
If you’re visiting somewhere hot and plan to travel in sandals or open toed shoes I always make sure I pack a pair of socks in my hand luggage so my feet don’t get cold on the flight. To me there is nothing worse than cold feet!
Stay hydrated throughout the flight, especially if travelling long distances as it will help with jet lag. Most airlines will fill up your empty water bottle for free on request.
Research & Plan
Research and make a plan of how to reach your destination from the airport. If you are renting a car and driving then I recommend downloading the Navmii app to help navigate the foreign streets. The app is free and doesn’t require 3G/4G! I used it when driving from Milan Airport to Lake Como last year and it was absolutely spot on.
If you have booked anything without a travel agent then call/ email any bookings you’ve made a few days before day of travel to confirm your booking is still in place to avoid any nasty surprises on arrival.
When I’m on holiday I like to completely immerse myself in my surroundings and get away from ‘real life’. Turn off your phone as much as you can and get down to relaxing.
What do you like to do on your holiday’s to ensure they are stress free?
