Over the past 10 years I have been lucky enough to visit some incredible places all over the world. Even though I like to go to different places when I go away, I still like to revisit places that I’ve been before to explore areas I didn’t get to see. Inspired by Sophie’s great post, I thought I would list 6 cities I can’t wait to visit again (it was so hard to narrow it down!)
Me and Mark visited The Dam 3 years ago for a long weekend in March. We had plans to do lots of walking, looking in boutique shops, rent bikes and generally spend lots of time on the canals. Unfortunately, the weather had other ideas. For the 3 days we were there it was torrential rain 98% of the time. Something we were not prepared for. It was quite disappointing to be walking around in the rain trying not to get too wet whilst at the same time trying to find things to do. We did manage to eat lots and do a boat tour but next time I want to go in the summer so I can wander around in pretty Summer dresses and cycle around on cute Dutch bikes.
I’ve visited The Big Apple 3 times so far, all with different people (my most recent trip being last year). I’ve totally done the tourist thing and next time would love to stay across the river in Brooklyn and explore that area a little more. The City That Never Sleeps is one of my all time favourite cities (after London). Another must do on the list whilst I’m in NY is to go out to The Hamptons for a few days and stay in a beach house and also visit Coney Island.
Another city in the States that I love is San Francisco. I visited for a few days with my best friend when we went backpacking back in 2010. We were on a very tight budget so did a whole lot of walking and free stuff. We managed to squeeze in Alcatraz which I would love to see again as well as doing more tours and trying out some good restaurants.
Ok, so Essaouria isn’t a city but I couldn’t leave it off the list. Mark and I visited in 2013 and I was immediately drew to it’s charm. It’s so easy to get lost in the narrow streets and enjoy a long walk along it’s beach. It’s visually so beautiful. Next time I will take an empty suitcase to buy lots of goodies from the market. The Atlas Mountains are also a place I’d love to visit.
I’ve visited Paris more times than I can count but have always gone for day trips or stayed in the centre. Always in the Winter. Next time I would like to go in the Spring/ Summer and stay in the Bohemian area of Montmarte. Walking along the beautiful cobbled streets whilst discovering hidden bars and restaurants, is so appealing!
Another place that isn’t technically a city (but comes close) is Queenstown. This is another place I visited on my backpacking trip, and once again in the depths of winter. I can’t begin to tell you how cold it was. We weren’t able to do much of what we wanted to do (as we were ill equipped) but did manage to head up the Skyline Gondola to look down at the amazing views. Queenstown is surrounded by stunning scenery not to mention the crystal water lake. It is a city that I would love to visit again (in Summer) so I can share it with someone else and experience it at it’s best (as well as eat another infamous Fergburger!)
What places would you like to revisit? Have you been to any of the ones on my list?
