Ever since I found out I was pregnant and announced it on the blog I have wanted to write posts on how I’m feeling and what I am experiencing through each trimester.
I am now in the beginning of the 2nd trimester which is apparently the trimester that most women love. It’s where there are less symptoms and their bumps aren’t too big to be a hindrance.
A quick Google and you’ll be able to find out why so many women HATE the first trimester. Me included. There are so many blog posts and vlogs about it you’ve probably heard it all before. The nausea, the exhaustion, the sore boobs/nipples, the headaches, the anxiety, and the constipation all go hand in hand with the first trimester. Instead I want to focus on all the things I loved about the first trimester.
As we went through IVF, Mark and I were so lucky to be able to have seen our baby from a tiny speck of an embryo to a wriggling bean at our scans at weeks 6 and 9. Having the scan at 12 weeks and seeing it move around, stretch and suck it’s thumb is something that will stay with me always. An amazing and emotional experience.
Throughout the 1st trimester I totally went off all healthy food. Seriously. I couldn’t stomach any fruit or vegetables. I lived on beige salty food. Crisps, pizza, pasta, chips, toast. At one point I was averaging a bag of McCoys Salt & Vinegar a day. And I LOVED it. For once in my adult life I didn’t feel guilty for ditching the diet. I was just giving the baby what it wanted.
Having ‘Our’ Secret
We only told a small handful of people about the pregnancy when we got to 7 weeks. It felt so special to have this huge secret that was just for us.
As much as we enjoyed having the secret, we both found it so hard to keep it! Our 12 week scan was on a Friday and we told our family and friends that weekend. Both Mark and I absolutely loved telling everyone and witnessing everyone’s reactions. I wish I’d filmed them all. Four of my brothers and sisters are abroad at the moment so I FaceTimed them all separately to tell them the news. Their reactions when I told them they are going to be Aunties and Uncles is something that will always make me smile. This baby is going to be the first in our family so it makes it that much more special.
I speak more about my first trimester in my first ever Vlog and have included a few symptoms I experienced too! Take a look.
What did you like about the first trimester?
