Hi peeps! Today I am going through my current favourite make-up essentials.
I have a confession. I don’t wear foundation. That’s right, I am a 32 year old woman who doesn’t wear foundation. I could tell you that it’s because my skin is naturally flawless and so gives off it’s own natural coverage vibe. But that would be incorrect. The truth is, I have not been able to find a foundation that suits my skin type. I have combination skin. Oily in all the typical areas – forehead, nose and chin. I have found in the past that when I do wear foundation, by the end of the day I could use my face as it’s own mirror. I like to let my skin breath.
Don’t get me wrong, I am open to finding and using a foundation, but as they come at a price, I am quite reluctant to spend money on something that isn’t going to compliment my skin. So, I hear you ask – what do I use on my face? Here it is:
Urban Decay’s Naked Ultimate Basics Eyeshadow Palette (£39.50)
This is a brand new palette by Urban Decay which I will be reviewing in it’s own right in the next couple of weeks. I have been using it since Christmas and absolutely love it. The good thing about these eyeshadows is that you can make the colours as subtle or as pigmented as you like which makes it perfect for day or evening looks.
Benefit High Beam (£21.50)
This liquid highlighter is my absolute must for every day wear. It is brilliant at highlighting and accentuating areas on your face you would like to draw attention to. Me? I use it on my cupids bow and high on my cheek bones during the day. Under my eyebrows and on the bridge of my nose in the evenings.
Bare Minerals Warmth (£20)
This bronzer is a really good little powder that I use to contour my face (I am yet to try any contour palettes as yet!) I use it at the edge of my face (by my ears), on the top of my forehead and underneath my chin, which are apparently the areas to highlight on my ‘oval’ shaped face.
Bare Minerals Mineral Veil (£21)
This small tub of goodness is a gods send! As I don’t wear foundation, I find that this powder sets my face make up perfectly and gives me the finish that I am after every day. I use it once I have applied my eye primer, eye shadow, liner, and Warmth.
L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes So Couture (£9.99)
This is an absolutely brilliant mascara, and one I have used for a number of years now. I also use the waterproof version when I go on holiday – it stays on, doesn’t smudge and just makes my eyelashes look amazing!
Deep Action Mattifying Shine Control Papers (£2.69)
I carry these papers in my handbag wherever I go. As I said, I suffer from oily skin and this little book of blotting papers are amazing at wiping over my face to soak up all of the oil. They leave my face looking matte-a-licious!
Bobbi Brown Ink Liner (£21.50)
This is a new one to my daily collection after getting this for my birthday in January. I am a huge fan of the eye lash ‘flick’ and I haven’t found a better black eye liner than this one. It lasts all day and is so easy to apply.
Benefit Boi-ing (£17.50)
This concealer is a staple and something I have been using since my teens. It has covered a multitude of sins on my face! In my opinion, it is the best concealer on the market to cover up breakouts and offers excellent defence against those pesky dark eye circles.
Eye Lash Curlers
I am blessed with naturally long eyelashes so an eye lash curler is an absolute must for me to get them out of my eyes! I am currently using Cosmopolitan’s curlers which work a treat
Mac Brown Eye Shadow (£13)
I use this eye shadow along with Mac’s 263 Small Angle Brush on my eyebrows. As a victim of the overplucking trend in the 90’s, my poor eyebrows are almost non existent, but thanks to this eye shadow, I just ‘draw and go’… I get lots of compliments on them too. I would advise going in to a Mac counter to get your colour matched up.
Benefit Dallas Powder (£24.50)
Another make-up essential is the Benefit Dallas Powder. Benefit describes this face powder as giving ‘an outdoor glow for an indoor gal’ which is pretty much bang on. I use this powder every day underneath my cheek bones to work alongside ‘Warmth’ to accentuate my cheeks that little bit more.
Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener (£22)
I have been using this eye brightener for about 10 years now and love it so much. A little dab of it underneath my eyes gets rid of any black bags that may have surfaced after a heavy night! It makes my eyes look brighter. Does exactly what it says on the label!
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (£17)
I was give this primer potion as a free sample with my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette and was so impressed by it I decided to make a purchase. For a girl with greasy eyelids, I used to find my eyeshadow make-up slipping off my face and would always finish the day with horrid lines across them. Not anymore! I use this primer potion religiously and love it so much. It’s thanks to this that my eye make-up lasts the entire day. I use the ‘original’ shade.
I’m trying to wear lipstick more and find that matte types stay on my lips for much longer than glossy ones! I recently bought a Max Factor Velvet one which I will review soon. Watch this space!
