Ever since I got to 10 weeks pregnant I have been using stretch mark cream to try and keep those dreaded pregnancy lines at bay. I started smothering the stuff on as soon as I even felt like my tummy had grown a little. Throughout pregnancy you can expect to spend a small fortune on creams so it is important to try one that you really love.
Since I started, I have tried a few different ones. These are the ones I’ve tried so far:
Mama Mio The Tummy Rub Butter | £23.50
The most expensive cream on my list is of course my favourite (I have expensive taste!). The Mama Mio Tummy Rub is not only beautifully presented in a nice, clean white tub, it also smells SO good. I would find myself looking forward to working this into my belly (+boobs, tops of thighs) after every shower. It’s a nice, thick cream that feels luxurious and like you’re really treating yourself when you use it.
You’re going to spend a small fortune on stretch mark cream in those 9 months, so due to the price, this is definitely one to treat yourself to every now and then. I would use this one in the morning and then use Pregnacare (below) in the evening to make it last a little longer.
Palmer’s Cocoa Tummy Butter for Stretch Marks | £3.99
The cheapest of the bunch and my least favourite of the lot. The product comes in a cute tin, however (along with the chocolate smell) that’s the only good thing that I liked about this product. The Tummy Butter resembles… well… butter. It is so greasy and stayed on my skin throughout the day which I really didn’t like. It was because of this that made my skin react to it – after a few days use the tops of my thighs came out in a really itchy red rash which I can only assume is because my skin wasn’t able to breathe under the butter and it was rubbing on my trousers. A week of Sudocreme and Camomile lotion finally got the rash to disappear thank god, but I will not be using this one again. The lotion version of this might be better/ thinner but I am reluctant to try it to find out!
Pregnacare Stretch Mark Cream | £5.99
This one was recommended to me through a friend. The cream comes in a compact tube, so no marks for packaging, however full marks for everything else. The cream itself is quite thick and a little goes a long way. Once rubbed in it sinks in instantly and doesn’t leave any residue on the skin but still makes it feel thoroughly moisturised. The smell (to me) is very citrusy (oranges!) I had no issues rubbing this all over myself! It is well priced and lasted (for me) approx. 2 weeks.
With most creams instructing usage throughout the day (who has time for that?!) Using the creams twice a day work for me, after my morning shower and just before I go to bed. I have found myself with a tube of this and a tub of the Mamma Mio Tummy Rub alternating between the two in the mornings and evenings. That way my skin continues to have a daily luxurious treat.
Have you tried any of these creams? Are there any others you would recommend?
