A few weeks ago, Mark and I drove to Oxford to stay in Artist Residence Hotel. The hotel is the newest in the AR family and I have been wanting to stay there since it opened last June
The Perfect Bolthole
The weather on the day we arrived was diabolical. Seriously. It was one of those days where it heavily rained all day. From morning until night. The 1.5 hour drive was pretty hairy and the one track road the hotel is located on was full of ginormous puddles (we actually overheard the hotel owners telling patrons who were at the hotel for a drink to leave later on that afternoon as the road was very quickly flooding and there would soon be no way out!).
Luxury, Luxury, Luxury
We arrived to a warm welcome (and a sign that read ‘No Riff Raff’ which I loved!). The boutique hotel has 5 rooms ranging in size. We stayed in a Farmhouse Loft room, and my god, the luxury! I have stayed in boutique hotels before, however, Mark and I both agreed that this hotel was the best we have ever stayed in. From the bed sheets to the rugs, the bath towels to the toiletries. Everything was so luxurious. We definitely felt like we were treating ourselves.
Mr Hanbury’s Mason Arms
We stayed at Artist Residence to celebrate my birthday. We spent a few hours when we arrived sat next to a roaring fireplace in the downstairs pub whilst sipping on cocktails and playing Scrabble. I managed to squeeze in a divine bubble bath before dinner and could’ve spent the entire night there. The hotel pub, Mr Hanbury’s Mason Arms was recommended for dinner and we dined like Kings on the delicious menu before retiring to our room to nurse our food babies and relax on the ridiculously comfy bed.
On waking we immediately regretted only staying for one night and after a tasty breakfast in bed we were on our merry way. I so would recommend this hotel a million %. It’s perfect for a little weekend get away and I imagine would be even prettier in the warmer months. The hotel is practically in the middle of nowhere surrounded by fields – a walkers dream! We are already making plans to return.. next time for a longer stay!
