My husband and I visited Mykonos in the beginning of May this year (read all about what we got up to here). This post is all about our hotel we stayed at ‘Mykonos Ammos’. We were recommended the Mykonos Ammos Hotel by my parents who had stayed there a couple of times with friends and who spoke highly of it. After looking at the website we both quickly agreed that it looked like our sort of place and promptly booked a 7 night stay in a Superior Double Sea View Room through Thomson Holidays.
Thomson sorted out the flights (via EasyJet) and free transfers from and to Mykonos Airport. We’d heard that the airport was a 10 minute drive away which I think is closer to 5 mins – it was that quick! This was a massive bonus when we got there after a 3am start, all we wanted was to hit the beach to snooze in the sun.
The hotel itself is typically Greek. White wash with simple, clean architecture. The décor is minimalistic and modern which just highlighted the hotel’s beautiful location.
When arriving at the hotel, we were greeted by the staff who were all warm and friendly. As were all the Mykonos residents we met. We were shown a brief tour around the hotel and it’s small swimming pool before being taken to Kuzina the bar/ restaurant attached to the hotel. Kuzina is situated on the beach and there we were given a free welcome drink of Bucks Fizz. It would be about 20 mins before our room was ready and we were pleasantly surprised to have received a small upgrade. Our room was perfectly sized, with an amazing walk-in shower and a private balcony set back from the others with a sea view.
After unpacking (ie. Throwing our clothes into the wardrobe) we slapped on the suncream along with our bathing suits and hit the beach. The Ammos Hotel is set on Ornos Beach which is a small sandy/ shingle beach lined with sun loungers and restaurants/ bars. The sun loungers right in front are reserved for patrons of Kuzina and are charged at €9 each per day. The ones for Mykonos Ammos (free for guests of the hotel) are situated right next to them so the vibe of the bar is still apparent. As soon as we arrived (and for every time we visited the beach… which was every day!) we were greeted by a waiter. He/ she brought us free bottles of water and menus should we want to order any food or drinks throughout the day. We spent pretty much 85% of our time in Mykonos on that beach, it was just so idyllic. The water was so clear and calm. It was just like something out of a postcard and just so incredibly relaxing.
The hotel in Ornos is located about a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk from Mykonos Town.
For us the location was perfect. We like to walk whenever possible so did walk into the town more often than we took the bus. It’s just a straight walk along the coast line. The bus was extremely handy and efficient though and only cost €1.80 each for a single ticket. The small town of Ornos has a couple of supermarkets, bakeries and not to mention a number of yummy restaurants. I wish we had time to try them all!
The staff at the hotel couldn’t have been nicer or more efficient.
Mykonos Ammos provides free breakfasts for all guests
And my gosh were they good! Fresh bread, cold meats and cheeses, Greek yoghurt, honey, fruit and eggs made to order. I’m not normally a fan of hotel breakfasts but I loved the one that Ammos provided. It was made even nicer with the beach next to us.
If you are looking for a hotel in Mykonos then I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Mykonos Ammos Hotel. As you can see it’s such a lovely place to stay and I can’t wait to return.
What do you look for in a hotel when you go away?
